Maguire on the Spider-Man 3 Goo

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/TobeyMaguire.jpg

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Tobey Maguire revealed a bit more about Spider-Man 3:

"Basically, there's the goo, right? The symbiote which has, like, a dark energy, like the goo from the thing that creates venom." To someone not totally versant in the Spider-Man mythology, Maguire sounds vaguely demented. He realizes it, laughs and backs up. He's not referring to venom, but Venom, "a very, very popular character from the later Spider-Man comics. He has the same kind of attributes that Spider-Man has, but he's just stronger, faster and more vicious than Spider-Man. And it comes from this goo that comes from outer space, so first the goo comes and gets hold of me."

How exactly does it come from outer space? We'll soon know. Hit the link above for the full interview.

Damon Talks Trek XI

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/MattDamon-1.jpg

‘Patrick’ over at SCI-FI Wire alerted us that Matt Damon told them that he's open to assuming the role of Capt. James T. Kirk in the proposed 11th Star Trek movie, but denied previous rumors that he is already in line for the iconic role, which was originated by William Shatner.

"If the script was good, I'd do it," Damon said in an interview while promoting his latest film, The Good Shepherd. "But, yeah, I heard that [rumor]. I think J.J. Abrams or somebody said that at press junket or something, and it got picked up [by the media and Star Trek fans]."
If Damon were to win the role of Kirk, he would become the first actor to play the character since Shatner played him in the original 1960s Trek and its subsequent spinoff movies.
Abrams, who co-created ABC's hit SF series Lost, is set to co-write and produce Star Trek XI and may direct it as well. Abrams previously directed Mission: Impossible III.

Nicole Richie Popped for DUI

TMZ has learned that Nicole Richie was arrested for DUI early Monday morning. She was booked at 4:50 AM today and was released around 7:15 this morning. The booking sheet reveals Richie is 5'1" and 85 lbs.
We're told two motorists spotted her SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. The drivers called 911.
When the CHP responded, Richie was stopped in the carpool lane and was alone in the vehicle. When cops approached the vehicle, Richie was on her cellphone.
Law enforcement officers tell TMZ Nicole Richie admitted she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot.
A preliminary alcohol screening device revealed that Nicole was not under the influence of alcohol.
One law enforcement source tell TMZ that while Richie was at the jail she was "very cooperative and very humble."
This is not the first brush Richie has had with substance abuse. In 2003, she pled guilty to heroin possession. The charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.
A rep for Richie had no comment.
TMZ has learned that Richie hired celebrity lawyer Howard Weitzman to rep her in this latest incident.

Britney's date revealed!

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/Britney11.jpg

Looks like the new man on Britney’s side right now is JR Rotem. He’s a music producer who worked amongst other with Paris Hilton and her ex-trash FedEx. Honestly he looks like a major to me but at least he’s got his money. People are calling him the white Dr. Dre but I still hope there won’t be more than just a date.

Aliens to spawn on next-gen systems

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/Alien.jpg

Hot on the heels of
Scarface: The World Is Yours, The Godfather, and Reservoir Dogs, another old movie license has been dusted off to be turned into a game. The latest dormant property to see a gaming revival is the Alien series of sci-fi horror films. Sega and Twentieth Century Fox today announced that they would be bringing the acid-blooded extraterrestrials back to the world of console gaming.
Fans of the series can expect to see it adapted a number of ways, as the companies have confirmed that several Alien games--including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game--are currently in pre-production, with the first game scheduled to be released in 2009. The games will be for currently undisclosed "next-generation gaming systems."
The first Alien film came out in 1979, starring Sigourney Weaver as Lieutenant Ripley of the commercial spaceship Nostromo, which intercepts a distress call from a nearby planet. While investigating the planet, one of the crew becomes impregnated by an alien. Three sequels were made from the original, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection. The franchise has also yielded a crossover spin-off in Alien Vs. Predator.
This is not the first time either company has adapted the sci-fi series for gaming. In 1993, Sega released the arcade game Alien 3: The Gun, while the Fox Interactive brand scored a hit with the PC first-person shooting Alien Versus Predator series. Other publishers to tackle the franchise in interactive form include Electronic Arts (Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction for PlayStation 2), Konami (Aliens for the arcade), Capcom (Alien Vs. Predator for the arcade), and the former incarnation of Acclaim (Alien Trilogy and Alien 3 for multiple platforms).
This is the second announcement of a Sega-made movie adaptation in as many months. In November, the publisher confirmed it had signed a deal for next-gen games based on Marvel's upcoming Iron Man film. The company is also making a next-gen game based on another, still unannounced, Marvel superhero license.

Nintendo - Brits buy 50,000 Wiis in 12 hours

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/Wii10.jpg

With each region the Wii is released in, impressive sales numbers have followed. American gamers bought 600,000 Wiis in the system's first eight days in North America. In Japan, 372,000 Wiis were sold in just two days. Late last week the Wii went on sale in Europe, and the first sales figures are in.
Nintendo says 50,000 Wiis were sold in the UK in the console's first 12 hours on the market. That translates to more than one console sold every second.
The Mario factory has yet to announce how many units were shipped to Europe, and as with other regions, the Wii remains a hard find for gamers.
"We are doing everything we can to meet demand throughout Christmas and the new year," said Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton.

Columbia & Raimi Team on The Shadow

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/The-Shadow.jpg

Columbia Pictures has acquired the screen rights to The Shadow, the legendary 1930s pulp hero, for an adaptation to be produced by Sam Raimi (the "Spider-Man" movies) and Josh Donen through their Buckaroo Entertainment. Michael Uslan is also producing via his Comic Book Movies, Llc/Branded Entertainment.

Columbia has set Siavash Farahani to write the screenplay, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The Shadow debuted in 1931 on a CBS radio show which aimed to boost the magazine circulation of sponsor Street & Smith. The character was actually the moniker for the announcer, and listeners began demanding stories based on the name.
Walter B. Gibson created the character, writing the adventures of a crime-fighter who skulked in shadows wearing a hat and cape, and who had the power to cloud men's minds.
The Shadow became one of the greatest pulp heroes of the time, and the radio series, which featured a young Orson Welles, spawned the catchphrase "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"
The character's most recent incarnation was a big-budget 1994 feature from Universal starring Alec Baldwin and directed by Russell Mulcahy.
"I've been a passionate Shadow fan ever since I was a kid and have long dreamed of bringing this character to the screen," Raimi said. He is not attached to direct at this time.

Spielberg Developing Two New Fox Shows

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/StevenSpielberg02.jpg

Steven Spielberg
is taking an active role in the development of two projects set up at Fox, reports Variety.
Ed Burns and wife Christy Turling-ton are attached to write a drama set in the fashion world and based on an idea of Spielberg's; the second project, from writer Scott Gemmill, is an action series focused on time travel.
Both hourlong entries come from 20th Century Fox TV, as well as Spielberg's DreamWorks TV label. DreamWorks TV executives Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are executive producers as well.
Spielberg came up with the concept for the untitled Burns project after attending New York's fashion week. The storyline revolves around five twenty-somethings with fashion jobs such as photographer, designer, makeup artist and model.
As for the Gemmill project, time-travel drama has a romantic storyline at its core.
The untitled show will revolve around two young American physicists in WWII who discover a way to pinch time and travel to the future. They wind up hopping between 2007 and the 1940s in order to aid the war effort -- but in the process begin to upset the space-time continuum.
Along the way, one of the physicists also enlists a woman in 2007 to help him adjust to culture shock, and the two develop a relationship.
Having executive produced the "Back to the Future" trilogy, Spielberg's also at work on a documentary on time travel.
Spielberg also just announced last week that he and DreamWorks TV would team with TNT to produce a six-hour miniseries based on Stephen King-Peter Straub novel "The Talisman."

Narnia Sequel Changes Filming Location

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/Narnia3.jpg

Disney and Walden Media will shoot The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian at U.K.'s Pinewood Studios starting February and has debunked a previous report that said the sequel would return to New Zealand. The Times reports:
Prince Caspian, the next film in the Narnia series, is set to be made at Britain's Pinewood Studios. Andy Bird, the president of Walt Disney International, told an audience of television executives on Thursday that shooting would begin in February and that post-production would also take place in Britain.
Prince Caspian's backers had considered New Zealand and the Republic of Ireland as alternative locations for the film, although the story is set initially in wartime Britain, before the four Pevensie children return to Narnia a thousand years after the events in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

The N-Word Is Always Welcome Here

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/MichaelRichards05.jpg

At least one person in Hollywood doesn't think Michael Richards' racist rant was all that bad. In response to attacks on the former "Seinfeld" star, the black owner of the Comedy Union is opening his doors to comics who use the N-word.
"Someone had to stand up for comics, and freedom of speech has to rule the day," says Enss Mitchell in a Yahoo News report. "No matter if you agree or disagree with what someone says, you have to allow them the opportunity to say it. It's a slippery slope when anyone wants to start banning a word."
Maybe comedians will start lining up here to avoid putting $20 into the Laugh Factory's self-imposed swear jar every time they use the racial slur.

Chicks for Free

This is so dumb and unsuprising but I mean once trailer trash, always trailer trash.

THERE'S a new freebie whore at large, and his name is Kevin Federline. Britney Spears' ex has been going to any and all parties as long as there is free booze and swag. His latest stop was Thursday at the Armani Exchange store in L.A.'s Sunset Plaza, where he picked up thousands of dollars of A/X duds "to wear to the Armani Exchange/Details magazine party later that night." Fed-ex and his posse of grifters arrived in a rented Maybach and proceeded to guzzle down free liquor and left with a group of "giggling girls."

"Prison Break" Star's Snobbiness Triggered Tragedy

"Prison Break" star Lane Garrison may have averted tragedy last week had he settled for a lesser vodka.
Garrison was behind the wheel last weekend when his Land Rover crashed into a tree in Beverly Hills, killing 17-year-old Vahagn Setian. As TMZ first reported, Garrison met Setian and two 15-year-old girls hours before the crash. The teens invited the actor to a party. People who attended the party tell TMZ they saw Garrison drink between four and seven shots of Grey Goose vodka in a short period of time.
Now other sources say seven was the unlucky number of shots. And we're told, Garrison was not drinking out of a shot glass -- the receptacle was much larger.
People who attended the party say Garrison finished off the Grey Goose and was offered Absolut vodka, but insisted on his drink of choice. The sources say Garrison was making a liquor run for more Grey Goose with Setian and the two girls when the accident occurred.

Garrison's high-powered celebrity defense lawyer Harland Braun tells TMZ his client was heading back to his apartment when the crash occurred.
Garrison's blood was tested the night of the crash to determine his blood alcohol level. Results are pending.

Rosie to Asians: Get Over It

She may not have used the N-word, but that doesn't mean Rosie O'Donnell is in the clear when it comes to race relations.
According to Page 6, Asian-Americans are fuming at "The View" host for saying that Danny DeVito's drunken antics made headlines in China that read: 'Ching chong, ching ching chong, Danny DeVito!"
"The use of the distorted phrases is insulting to the Chinese and Chinese-Americans, and gives the impression that they are a group that is substandard to English-speaking people," says the Asian-American Journalists Association. But Rosie's rep thinks they just don't get it: "I certainly hope that one day they will be able to grasp her humor."

Firefly licensed for Multiverse MMO game

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n63/RealSkyDiver/Firefly.jpg

Sci-fi geeks can attest to the fact that one of the best television shows that wasn't given its proper due was Fox's short-lived Firefly. The show was created by Joss Whedon, who also brought to the small screen cult favorites Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. The show ran just 14 episodes but was momentarily resurrected by a big-screen continuation, 2005's Serenity.

Now it appears the television series is getting a third shot at life in another form of media--a massively multiplayer online game.

The Multiverse Network today announced that it has attained the rights to develop an MMO game based on Firefly from 20th Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising. Multiverse has yet to announce the production team that will develop the game, but it hopes to have the product ready sometime in 2008.

"Fox's Firefly series is set in an incredibly rich and exciting universe. It's going to make a very compelling and unique online experience filled with adventure, humor, and mystery," said Multiverse cofounder and executive producer Corey Bridges. "It's our hope that Firefly's passionate and dedicated community of fans will enjoy the chance to become part of the story as they develop and explore the worlds of Firefly."

Eschewing the traditional practices of developing MMO games, Multiverse is creating middleware dedicated to MMO games, which can be licensed to developers who then use the technology to easily create a game. The company's profit is made off of revenue sharing.
